The Origin of IHF: From Statelessness to Solidarity
In the heart of Lebanon's refugee camps, a young Palestinian boy grew up amidst the turmoil of the Lebanese Civil War (1975–1990), a brutal conflict that claimed over 100,000 lives and displaced nearly a million people. Born into a stateless existence, he faced the compounded struggles of being Palestinian without a homeland, enduring the harsh realities of life in overcrowded camps like Ein El Hilweh and Shatila. These camps, established to shelter Palestinians displaced in 1948, became symbols of enduring hardship, with residents often living in poverty and lacking basic rights.
At the age of 20, driven by the desire for a better life and the need to escape the escalating violence, he fled Lebanon. His journey led him to various countries, each presenting its own challenges and rejections, as he navigated the complexities of being stateless. Despite these obstacles, he remained resilient, carrying with him the stories of his people and the unyielding hope for a brighter future.
Eventually, he found refuge in the Netherlands, where he met a compassionate woman who shared his passion for helping those in need.
Together, they founded the Independent Human Foundation (IHF), driven by the belief that aid should reach those who need it most, without delay or obstruction. Witnessing firsthand the inefficiencies and blockages in traditional aid systems, they established IHF with a clear mission: to deliver fast, transparent, and impactful assistance directly to the people on the ground.
Their vision resonated with others, and soon, a dedicated team joined their cause. Through unwavering commitment and a shared sense of purpose, IHF grew into a trusted and strong charity organization. Today, it stands as a testament to the power of resilience, compassion, and the belief that even in the face of adversity, one can make a difference.

A young mother, who for years kept asking herself, “What can I do?” — until she heard about IHF and felt her passion ignite. She joined immediately, determined to make a difference.
And the men and women on the ground — in Gaza today, and in other conflict zones where suffering is greatest — who continue to serve their people every single day, staying strong and unshaken in their commitment to stand by their communities until the end.
